Drone attacks on the Sudanese city of El Obeid kill two people and wound more than twenty

El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, came under drone attacks lasting from 04.00 until 17.00 on Sunday 20 September; the Sudan Doctors Network reported 2 dead and more than 20 wounded.

According to Darfur24, citing local sources, four unmanned aerial vehicles struck various points in El Obeid between 04.00 and 08.00 on Sunday morning, including the Sudanese army headquarters and the Ministry of Finance building. The attacks continued intermittently until 17.00; government offices, shops and markets closed. In the al-Nadhir neighbourhood a woman and a man were killed by shrapnel and more than 19 people were wounded. Sources assess that the drones belonged to the Rapid Support Forces; no direct claim of responsibility came from the RSF and the perpetrator could not be independently verified.

Anadolu Agency, citing the independent medical group the Sudan Doctors Network, reported that 2 people were killed and 20 wounded, and that guided drones struck several neighbourhoods from dawn until midday. The same report noted that, according to a UN finding in August 2026, 1,100 civilians were killed in drone attacks across Sudan between January and June 2026. The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights had earlier documented 45 civilians killed and 41 wounded in 15 drone attacks in El Obeid and its surroundings alone, and damage to at least 13 fuel stations in El Obeid and Er Rahad. According to UN and international estimates, roughly 13 million people have been displaced in the war that began in April 2023.
